Core of Four

{title}

The Core of Four is a way of expressing our educational philosophy and focus. We use these four concepts to guide everything we do from curriculum development to student scheduling to recreation. It is through the Core of Four that we find expression for the principles of excellence in education provided by God through the Spirit of Prophecy.

Excellent Academics

We strive for the highest academic standards. We do this through our carefully chosen and highly qualified faculty who are committed to excellence and constant improvement. We search for instructors who employ innovative teaching methods, who have broad practical experience, and who are dedicated to biblical educational principles as outlined in the Spirit of Prophecy. While traditional education too often focuses on a narrow part of the mind (memory), we emphasize whole person education and strive to help our students find a context for their knowledge—knowing God better through all their academic studies.

Evangelistic Emphasis

Our partnership with Amazing Facts provides practical means for a continuing emphasis on evangelism. AFCOE (Amazing Facts College of Evangelism) is located on the Weimar College campus. Our students share dorm space, meals, outreach, and social activities with the AFCOE students and these associations help to make evangelism a focal point at Weimar College. In addition, each faculty member and student is actively involved in local soul winning activities in the greater Sacramento area and/or in missions abroad.

Health Education

Whole person education underlies our curriculum. We emphasize student involvement in the educational process and health education is no exception. From the healthy mountain environment to our over 400 acres of trails to our rigorous work education and balanced study program, we strive to present a balanced program that includes physical as well as mental development.

While the health and physical improvement of our students is a priority, we also seek to train our students to be effective medical missionaries, sharing their health knowledge for the benefit of others. Our campus is home to the NEWSTART® Lifestyle program providing the perfect opportunity for students to interact with people who need the knowledge of health our students are trained to share. Weimar College also schedules off campus health outreach initiatives.

Practical Training

Our work-study program provides students with practical skills as well as opportunities for earning tuition. Not only do our students experience the beneficial effects of practical labor, our faculty join the students in their work providing uncommonly close connections between staff and students. This allows for the formation of mentoring relationships that lead to a better understanding of the academic material presented in classes. It’s part of our strategy for better learning based on the harmonious development of the whole person.

A Redesign From An Ancient Blueprint

On March 19, 2008, leaders in true Christian education from across the nation joined to develop the broad concepts of operation and curriculum for our school’s launch the coming fall. The fundamental question was asked, “How can we create and restore a practical Biblical and Spirit of Prophecy school in view of modern financial challenges and more importantly, the opportunity God has provided through the combined efforts of Amazing Facts and Weimar Center?”

Ellen White wrote that the “youth are to be encouraged to attend our schools, which should become more and more like the schools of the prophets” (FE 489). The current world chaos speaks clearly of the urgent need for Gospel medical-missionary ambassadors who can lead others to be a part of the remnant of Revelation 12:17.

Dr. Neil Nedley, Weimar Center President, shared his inspiring 5-year vision, including plans to expand NEWSTART® and develop a lifestyle-based cancer treatment center. The vision emphasized the need to train pastors, physicians, nurses and other health professionals in soul-winning.

The following mission statement was adopted: “The purpose of Weimar College is to offer Adventist evangelistic education that is spiritually, practically and academically excellent.”

The curriculum was organized into the “Core of Four.”

  • Evangelism through an ongoing synergistic relationship with Amazing Facts and an evangelism-integrated curriculum.
  • Education through a rigorous academic program that helps lead to a knowledge of God
  • Industry through staff and students working together in practical, physical labor.
  • Health through integration with NEWSTART® and other practical health programs.

{title}With new vigor and this fresh approach to meeting its educational goals, Weimar College will fulfill a vital role in the spreading of God’s end-time message to the world.

Weimar College first opened September 25, 1978, to bring together into one curriculum the vital elements of study, useful work and practical Christian witness. Faculty were chosen for their deep commitment to the philosophy and programs developed at Weimar as well their academic qualifications. Students came, first a trickle, then an increasing number for around the world. Over the years, Weimar College alumni have gone on to fill positions of trust in God’s work, bringing Gospel truth to the unreached. They are accomplishing their appointed tasks – bringing glory to God and finishing His work on this earth.

About the College

Weimar College exists to help our students gain one thing. That one thing is the foundation of all true education and of all true service. It is the only real safeguard against temptation. It is the only thing that can make us like God in character. It is A Knowledge of God. *

Weimar College was founded to impart a knowledge of God to its students. In order to do this, we embrace the principle that God offers the best, most effective methods of education, and that only by following these methods can we be sure of imparting true education to our students. We have synthesized our understanding of the principles of true education into what we call The Core of Four.

Excellent Academics

God calls us to excellence in all our endeavors. At Weimar College, our carefully chosen faculty will push you to expand your mind more than you thought possible. They will teach you how to reason on your own and think creatively. Our motivating purpose is to give you a thorough preparation that will enable you to render a life of excellent service to God.

Evangelistic Emphasis

Time is short. It will take an army to finish all the work that needs to be done before Jesus can return. We are helping to train that army, and training begins now. From the first time you enter the doors of Weimar College, you will be surrounded by an environment that’s alive with a passion for evangelism.

Health Education

Our bodies are the temple of God. Practicing the principles of good health ourselves helps us learn and think clearly, and enables us to communicate with God. We also seek to impart our knowledge of health to others. We firmly believe that health is the entering wedge of the gospel and so we have made health evangelism a major component of our program.

Practical Training

Much of modern education focuses on lectures and theory. While some of this is necessary, we prefer a hands-on approach as much as possible. We believe that relevance isn’t taught in a book. The most important things you will learn at Weimar College are not taught, they are experienced.

These principles guide everything that we do at Weimar College. This is not to say that we have discovered the breadth and height of true education. Rather, we are on a journey, a process by which we are constantly seeking a fuller understanding of what it means to restore the image of God in humanity. If this is a journey that you want to embark on, we invite you to travel with us as together we discover The Real Thing.
