Alumni Celebrate New Beginnings
Though first planned to commemorate the end of an era, the May 9-11 Weimar College Homecoming Weekend became a time to celebrate new opportunities in partnership with Amazing Facts.
“I am convinced that even more amazing things are yet in store for Weimar College and Weimar Institute,” said president emeritus Herb Douglass during his sermon on Sabbath morning. For nearly an hour he recounted stories of God’s leading in Weimar’s history, inspiring all present with the surety of God’s blessing on this place.
Highlights of the weekend for the 60 former students and staff that attended included memorable worship services in the recently restored Chapel, browsing through old photographs and annuals in Memory Hall, visiting with friends, campus tours and trail hikes, delicious vegan food, home movies of the 1980s and 1990s, and a Q & A time with Pastor Doug Batchelor of Amazing Facts.
Through it all ran a sense of gratitude for the role Weimar College has played in the lives of so many people through the years. Doug Garcia, ’89, summed it up well in his remarks Friday evening, “I’ve often thought God created Weimar Institute just for me. I learned so much here that has helped me in every other ministry I’ve been involved in.”
