Financial Assistance Programs

At Weimar College we believe in the value of the unique programs that we offer, and we wish to preserve our free choice to continue making this special educational opportunity available. For this reason, we have chosen to operate without securing or receiving direct or indirect financial aid from federal, state or other government sources. This means that we are not involved in any government scholarships or grant programs, and do not intend to seek this type of assistance.

At the same time we understand the challenges involved in paying for a college education, and are actively seeking ways to assist students who demonstrate a financial need. The following assistance programs are privately funded, and while limited, help to provide the hard-working, praying student with the chance to stay in school when this might otherwise be impossible.

Literature Evangelist Scholarship
The Literature Evangelism Program helps a large number of students who wish to spend their summers in outreach and who also need to put away money for school. Students in this program will be granted a scholarship in addition to the amount earned through book sales. The scholarship is available in the form of a discount applied to the student's bill and matches 50% of the amount forwarded to the college by the Conference or publishing entity from the student's earnings.

Student Missionary Grant
A Student Missionary Grant of $1000 is available for students returning from an overseas (outside the USA) assignment of at least 9 months duration. A criterion is available from the Student Finance Office.

Work Education Program
All students are expected to participated in the Work Education Program. Satisfactory completion of the required work program allows a maximum tuition reduction of $6.25 per hour for a minimum of 10 hours a week during the semester. Amount of tuition reduction received each semester is based on the student's work education grade.

Needy Students Extra Work Program
Students with exceptional financial needs may apply to the Needy Students Extra Work Program in order to earn extra money towards their account. Additional work availability is based on funding and the student's financial need. Extra work must receive prior approval from the appropriate offices. Monies earned will be channeled through payroll and are subject to payroll taxes. All funds earned must be applied to the student's account.

Summer Work Scholarship Program
Weimar College offers a summer work scholarship program for those who have been accepted as students for the coming year. The student will begin work not later than 11 weeks prior to registration. A student must work a minimum of 400 hours to qualify for student work assistance funds (amount over minimum wage based on grade earned for work education). This amount will be applied to the student's account in addition to summer earnings.

Prospective students should submit to the Admissions Director for Summer Work program a résumé, two work references and a letter stating the desire to be included in the Summer Work Scholarship Program by May 1 for eligibility. Returning students should see the Director of Work Education. Single college students employed in the Summer Work Scholarship Program must live in on-campus student housing unless they are living with a parent or legal guardian in the surrounding area.

Task Force Grant
A Task Force Grant of up to $1000 is available for students returning from a task force assignment in North America sponsored by the SDA church and Conference-related organizations. The grant is based on 50% of earnings while on the task force assignment.

Weimar Academy Graduates
Weimar Academy students who continue their education at the College will receive $500 in the form of credit toward their expenses. This is not available to the staff children who receive tuition subsidy from Weimar Institute.
